Holy Fast-charging batteries, Batman!

New innovations on battery technology may have batteries fully charged in just 15 minutes and it lasts an entire week on a single charge.

Dr Harold Kung and his team at Northwestern labs are experimenting on the new tech that
boosts charging rates of lithium ions  by using a chemical oxidation process which drills millions of holes – just 20-40 nanometers wide – in the atom-thick sheets of graphene which makes up a good portion of lithium-ion battery construction. Unfortunately, this prototype battery lifecycle begins to decline quickly after about 150 charges, which is estimated to last a full year before needing to be replaced.

Dr. Kung says the tech may be ready for market in 5 years. Let’s hope by then they’ll figure out how to increase the overall life of this new innovation.

Who Says Flash is Dead on Mobile? Not Mozilla

After Adobe announced that Flash would no longer be supported on mobile devices, it was thought the slow death of Flash had begun.  In a surprise twist, Mozilla, the makers of popular the browser FireFox will continue Flash support in the mobile version of their software.

That’s right, Mozilla is releasing nightly builds of their browser for your favourite Android device.  Although still buggy at this point, it’s only a matter of time before it’s running smoothly for all your Flashy goodness.

ARDIC Technology is a startup whose recent video showcases a new prototype system that lets you interact with Android on a 65” screen
Using 10-inch Android tablet that powers a larger 65-inch display. The tablet utilizes a NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset, 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of flash storage, front and rear-facing cameras, HDMI, USB, a microSD slot, and both 3G and WiFi for connectivity. This in turn is connected to the larger, touchscreen monitor and audio using HDMI and video dock, touch data is sent via USB.

Basic touch input is available on the current prototype; advanced multi-touch gestures is planned for the next version.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus without Gorilla Glass

Corning has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will not be using their trademarked Gorilla Glass, even though it has been touted to be the flagship  high-end model mobile for Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream Sandwich phone has a 4.65-inch screen is a standard Super AMOLED display and not a Super AMOLED Plus variation (as seen on the Galaxy S II).  Samsung, has told the press that a type of “fortified glass,” will be used but hasn’t gotten any more specific than that. Once it users have had a chance to get it, we will quickly find out how it holds up to “butter fingers” type of users.

PlayStation suite for all androids

Never develop games on Android was not easy because different phones available for the operating system.  Sony provides a very simple process.

Androids running amok on iPads

Myriad Android Innovations will be releasing a new version of their Alian Dalvik 2.0 software to run Android on Apple iPads.

“We have seen incredible momentum in Android adoption, but we are just scratching the surface,” said Simon Wilkinson, Chief Executive Officer, Myriad Group. “Digital screens such as Internet- enabled TVs and in-vehicle displays, along with other consumer devices like tablets and e-books are proliferating at an astounding rate. Consumers are driving multimedia evolution and are demanding more converged multi-screen services. With Alien Dalvik 2.0, we are creating a more flexible, consistent user experience by mobilizing content such as live sports, recorded TV shows and on-demand movies, so users can enjoy content seamlessly from one device to the next.”It is Myriad’s intention to help implement Android OS to become the developer’s cross-platform standard. That way developers can create and users can buy apps without restrictions. Alien Dalvik 2.0 will be demonstrated next week at CTIA Enterprise & Applications 2011.

Accenture and Symbian in the works

Accenture is ready and will be taking over Symbian development in early October.

This frees up Nokia to develop and focus on Windows Phone devices, in a partnership deal made with Microsoft in February. Around 2,800 Nokia employees in China, Finland, India, UK, and U.S. will be transferred to Accenture. The resource migration starts this month and the agreement lasts until 2016.Jo Harlow, Executive VP for Smart Devices at Nokia, explains the partnership decision:
“Our collaboration with Accenture allows us to meet our ongoing commitment to support our Symbian smartphone customers and continue to leverage the talent that has the deepest experience on the platform. As we move our primary smartphone platform to Windows Phone, we will look to explore potential opportunities to tap this talent pool as they develop and expand their knowledge and capabilities beyond Symbian.”

The FCC in the United States have issued a mandate that ALL cellphones in the U.S. to be GPS enabled by 2018.That means another drop in the bucket for loss freedom in the way of the anonymous movement. The authorities can track and locate your position anywhere, at any time. So, much for the misnomer call the Freedom Act.Currently, non-GPS phones have to be triangulated between local Cellular Towers, which is time consuming. Their reasoning behind the move is that in 911 emergencies, this can dangerously delay critical assistance. The Patriot Act made the Fourth Amendment pretty much Null and Void, so why not pin-point everyone who’s on the grid at any time.  For those all ready with smart-phones don’t worry, you are all ready being watched, just kidding.
